What areas in Sheffield do you focus on for tree planting?

We concentrate on urban streets and community spaces that benefit most from increased tree coverage, eg areas with a low Tree Equity Score.

Are the trees planted suitable for Sheffield’s environment?

Yes, we will prioritise species that support local wildlife and ecological balance. We also avoid species which our experience has shown are becoming less likely to survive due to Sheffield’s changing climate.

What happens after a tree is planted?

To maximise the survival rate of newly planted trees it’s important to try and ensure that every tree is looked after by a local residents (typically for at least 3 years, until the tree is adopted by the Council). Watering, weeding and reporting problems to the Council etc. It would be an irresponsible use of the money raised through donations, to rush to plant trees that may die from lack of care.

Is STAG only concerned with street trees?

Our focus is on both street trees and green urban spaces.
