The committee’s proposal to remove the restrictive deadline on using crowdfunder money for planting trees in Sheffield, has been given the go-ahead by STAG members, with over 80% of votes approving the plan.
The process of responsibly using the money raised through the crowdfunders to plant trees in Sheffield has already started, with discussions ongoing with groups in Low Edges, Batemoor and Jordanthorpe. It’s also planned to investigate other areas, to find the best possible places to use the money.
As well as finding suitable places for tree planting, it’s an important part of doing things properly that we also find local residents/groups who have the enthusiasm to look after the trees (for vital watering, reducing vandalism etc) after they are planted, so that the money spent isn’t wasted.
More information on how members can get involved in this new plan for STAG to plant its first street trees will be released soon. There’ll be a lot of strands to the process – outreach to different areas of Sheffield, learning and sharing information about the process, finding and monitoring suitable sites and so on. Please get in touch if you are keen to help out – the more the merrier!
